A Basic Guide To Caring For Your Wrist-watch: Part 2

Everyday Wear and Tear....

Am I permitted to get my watch wet?

How wet you can get your watch depends on how wet the watch was made to get! As a rule, a WR30m watch is meant to be splashed like the , a WR50m is OK for light swimming but not really prolonged immersion like the Planet Ocean Chronograph Omega Replica watch , a WR100m watch is fine for swimming and a WR200m can be considered a diver's watch and can stay under a long time. Just as significantly is where you get your watch wet... Try to avoid dunking even a depth rated watch in hot water, like in the bath or shower; the heat can distort seals and soapy detergents can damage your timepiece. Watch seals also don't fare well against the chlorine in swimming pools, so wash it off in clean water after swimming in a pool. Likewise after swimming in the sea, used fresh water to wash out all that salt!

What about heat and sunlight?

Heat from the sauna can be damaging, especially if you go into icy waters shortly after. Rapid contraction happens in fast hot to cold changes like that, and the seal may have declined from the heat, which could lead to damage. Also, any watch will have some moisture in it simply as it has air in it; quick cooling means this may condense, doubtless only to disappear again but it could leave a stain under the crystal.

If you live in a hot area of the planet, heat can't be evaded. However, if at all possible, avoid leaving / wearing the watch in direct strong daylight; firstly the watch is going to get very hot which will not do the lubricants much good; secondly, direct sunlight like that can prematurely age dials and cause dial lacquers to lift or micro bubble. This does not imply you need to keep your watch under your sleeves when it's sunny! It's just a case of trying not to cook your watch or yourself.

Shockproof?

It may be shock-resistant but it is's best not to test its capability to withstand shock; mechanical watches are nearly always fitted with certain shock absorbing devices nowadays but despite that, do not expose your watch to unexpected shocks, vibration, dropping etc . Mechanical watches are pretty tricky but there's a limit; exposing the watch to severe shock can as a minimum affect timekeeping and at worst will cause mechanical failure. One of the best shock-resistant watches is the Omega Seamaster Chronograph Replica Watch

On the back of my watch, it asserts anti-magnetic.

Watches are antimagnetic to a certain depress - meaning, timekeeping won't be adversely affected because they're made to stand exposure to limited magnetic fields. However, high magnetic fields can only be withstood by expert watches. We should avoid this with our common-or-garden automatic. Firstly what you want to remember is that a mechanical watch has lots and lots of metal inside it; all these components are interacting with one another in some shape; wheels meshed with pinions for example. It any of these fragile components is magnetized, the watch may stop altogether, or run awfully erratically. This is not something the majority have to fret about.

Do not be too paranoid, but do avoid getting your watch too close to magnets, computer monitors, stereo speakers, and even the chiller door's magnetized rubber seal. Trouble may potentially come from these.
