Frequently Asked Questions

A - Automatic refers to a watch movement that consists of a self-winding mechanism, which allows the watch to run on its own without batteries. The advantage to this is that batteries are not required for the watch to run. The disadvantage to it is that the watch should be serviced every few years to make sure it runs smoothly.

Quartz refers to a watch movement that runs from a battery. The advantage to this is that the watch normally lasts longer than an automatic watch. The disadvantage to it is that the battery has to be changed every so often.

A Sweeping second hand refers to a second hand that sweeps smoothly instead of ticking once every second. Basically, its movement consists of a bunch of very tiny, rapid ticks that combine to make it look like the hand is sweeping smoothly. All automatic watches have a sweeping second hand, and all quartz watches have a ticking second hand.

A - When you first receive your automatic replica, you must give the watch an initial pre-wind (see instruction pamphlet). If you wear it everyday, it will continue to wind itself on your wrist when you move around and walk. If you stop wearing it for more than approximately 2 days, the watch will need to be reset, but will then automatically wind itself once you start wearing it again. The disadvantage to this is pretty clear. Your watch doesnt keep time if you dont wear it constantly. The advantages are that you dont ever have to replace a battery, the watch keeps great time when its running, and most of all, this type of movement is exactly what the originals use! If your Automatic is losing or gaining time in a 24-hour period the watch needs to be adjusted. All of our automatics have an adjustment screw on the movement just like the originals. Any local jeweler can service these watches.   back to top..
A - Chronographs are small dials that appear on the face of the watches and are functional on all our replica watches. Meaning when you press the buttons the hands move in increments. And automatically every 12 to 24 hours. They are normally used as stopwatch timers. Unless otherwise stated Japanese chronograph replica dials, move but are not a stop watch.

A chronometer is a watch whose movement has been certified by the Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometeres (COSC). The term chronometer came in to use to describe timepieces accurate enough for ship navigation. In 1973 COSC came in to existence as the official testing and certification control board. The COSC measures the movement’s accuracy over a few days at various temperatures and positions. The COSC certifies both Mechanical and Quartz movements however, since quartz movements are inherently very accurate and have little or no variation based on temperature or position most watchmakers do not go through the expense to certify quartz watches. A few things to note is that some watch companies have more stringent tests done then the COSC provides and therefore they do not go through the expense of testing their movements. The COSC certificate does not certify future accuracy. A mechanical movement’s accuracy can change over time based on the conditions of its environment.

A - Movements are the motors which make a watch tick. An automatic movement is a type of mechanical movement that runs off the energy created by moving the watch. Mechanical movements are hand assembled and only a master watch maker has the fine honed skills to assemble them properly. An automatic movement has a perfectly balanced rotor in the back of the watch, and as the watch is moved the rotor turns which winds a spring which in turn powers the motor which keep the hands moving accurately. If the watch is not moved the spring will not be wound and the motor will stop. When the movement is fully powered the watch should keep accurate time for 36-48 Hours. Once the watch stops reset the time and either shake the watch or wind the stem. To fully power your watch wind the crown 20-30 times. As every person’s activity level is different a movement is assembled to benefit the average person. If your watch is not keeping accurate time (whether it is going to fast or to slow) you may need a professional watch maker to adjust the movement to your wrist. At Croton we offer a limited lifetime warranty on your watch so you never have to worry about adjustment charges. Because years of learning and training are required, master watch makers are a rare breed, and therefore mechanical movements are generally found in better watches. This adds to the rarity and value of your fine timepiece.   back to top..
A - There are other sites out there with lower prices. ( but they do not carry our quality. ) When we see this, we begin to wonder what they re leaving out. Often times, the quality of their watches is lower. Because there is more than one different grade of watches available, sites are able to make it look like they carry the better deal by stocking a lower quality watch. So, having 30-40 suppliers, as some sites tend to state, doesnt make a difference. To be more specific, one difference between our watches and those of the sites that fall under this category is that the markings on our watches are exceptionally accurate. Other replicas tend to have markings that consist of blocky letters on the faces and/or backings. Another difference is that the lower quality watches weigh a lot less because they are made of cheaper metals. They also have movements that consist of inexpensive parts that break down after a few months.

Sometimes its not just the case that a site has a lower quality watch for cheaper, but that they wont actually ship out the same type of watch they have advertised. It is a hard truth to accept that a site could actually do this to people, but we have seen it happen time and time again. Because the Internet is so impersonal, if a business were to be crooked in this way, this is where they would do it. As we mention all the time, be suspicious of a site that wont give you a return policy, and be suspicious in general for a site that may offer one and simply wont follow up on their word. You cant foresee this, but at least be the most cautious you can by only dealing with a website that has an established business name.

The only thing left is considering the fact that there are other sites out there with watches that equal ours in quality. Because of this, we try to keep a competitive market by comparing our prices to theirs on a regular basis. As a result, we offer the best prices relative to their level of quality. If you can find another site that you received the same quality watch from as you did from us at a lower price, we will beat their price or refund your watch. So, its pretty clear that there are indeed differences. Take it upon yourself to see the difference in the quality of our watches. It will be worth sparing yourself the embarrassment when you go somewhere else for your replica and your friends are able to tell youre wearing a fake.

How Do I Set My Watch?

Winding Your Watch
For most watches you must first unscrew the crown counter clockwise. The stem will spring out by itself. Rotate the crown clockwise about 30 revolutions. This will give the watch an initial pre charge. If you do not wear the watch on a daily basis you will need to charge your watch as it will de-wind as it sits. While wearing the watch the kinetic movement maintains the watches power and keeps the time and charge. You will never need to replace a battery as the watch is fully mechanical. We do recommend that you have your watch serviced once a year, as all automatic replicas require. Any watch repair shop should be able to do this for your. Our automatic replicas come with a Japanese Miyoca movement. One of the highest quality Japanese movements in today's market.
Setting the Date and Time
Unscrew the crown so it releases. Pull the crown out one click and rotate the crown counter clockwise to scroll through the days. If today is the 15th you want to initially set the date to the 14th. Next gently pull the crown out to the next click. Rotate the hands counter clockwise until the date flips to the 15th. Now you know that it is the 15th AM. If you are setting the time to 6:00 P.M rotate the hands one more revolution and then to 6:00 PM. For chronograph date indicator press the side button to achieve the same results.
Sizing Your Watch
For metal bands we recommend that you take the watch to a watch repair shop. They should be able to size the watch for you for about $5.00. Leather band watches are sized differently depending on the security clasp. If you have any questions please email us and we will walk you through it.
Care of Your New Watch
Like any other fine quality watch, water does damage. Avoid submerging your watch or wearing it in the shower. Although your watch is manufactured with proper O-rings and gaskets. Water may still make it's way into the casing, usually, due to crowns not fully seated. All automatic watches require servicing sooner or later. A good tune up will ensure a long lasting watch. Quartz battery operated watches typically need a new battery every two to three years. ( to save battery life make sure the chronograph stop watch is not running when not in use) Any watch repair shop should be able to service your watch.
